I wanna talk about BTS military service.
In South Korea, all able-bodied South Korean men are obliged to serve in the military for 18months.
However, there is a heated debate whether it is okay to let BTS serve the military service, since BTS members has dedicated so much in the world, not just in South Korea.
Many Koreans agree on the idea that BTS don't have to serve military service. Moreover, many of worldwide BTS fans are concerned that BTS members might lose their "ARTIST SENSE" while they serve military service for about 2 years.
However under the current Korean law, there is no exception for singers like BTS, and especially RM, who is the leader of BTS, should serve the military service by the end of this year.
Good news is that Jeon Yong-gi of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea recently submitted a revised bill that aims to allow figures who’ve made great contributions in popular culture and arts to postpone mandatory military service. Jeon’s bill includes a proposal to allow a person to delay military service until he turns 30 upon recommendation by the Culture Minister and confirmation by the head of Military Manpower Administration.
Meanwhile, the members of BTS have not expressed clear opinions on this topic. Jin only briefly referred to the possibility of military enlistment in April last year when he appeared on CBS’ Sunday Morning.
“As Koreans, it‘s natural. Someday when duty calls, we will be ready to respond and do our best,” Jin said during an interview on the American TV show.
